It feels like this has been a summer of seeds. Many people sowing
seeds for winter growth, and some letting go of seeds you thought
would have flowered by now in a different way. This winter will
be full of surprises as a great many people create new foundations
that they weren't expecting to flourish so quickly, and others see
seeds they had let go of, return or suddenly flower very quickly.
A winter of growth and colour.

This period follows what has gone before in 2009. So many of us
this year have gone through more than ever before, in terms of life
changes, losses and upheavals. The amount of people dealing with
overload or stress in themselves became higher and higher as the
months of the early year rolled into summer. Stress is a regular factor
in the world today, especially given the mentality in cities and the
changing speed of our world this past 10-15 years. The advent of
faster communications, information systems and the speed of personal
change all helped to create this quickening feeling for and in many.
But I have noticed that recently, stress and the feeling of overload has
been at an all time high for many people. Some are left feeling burnt out
and recovering, and others are still in the middle of the stress, trying
to 'make things work' from within seeming chaos.

Because of all I noticed in others around me and inside myself, I went to
Colorado this summer to do an evening event, and also to deliver a retreat
on 'Self-Leadership'. A favourite songwriter of mine, Tori Amos, said
recently that her way of getting through difficult times is to 'out-create'
them, by turning to her creativity. Self-leadership is the best way to out-create
any situation or difficulty you are in, for it means that when you only have
yourself to listen to, you are able to give yourself the right words, or advice.
If you can lead yourself effectively, you can out-create anything you are in.
