The top loop is anchored in Spirit and the bottom loop is anchored into the material. The 8 connects Spirit with Matter. It represents the path of human evolution from the material, flowing upward losing the attachment to form and matter (the thin point of crossing) to expand into hugeness in the spiritual. It is a HUGELY powerful number! (The number that follows it, the 9, represents human as Divine.)
The Lion's Gate is made up of two 8's. It is doubly powerful, a doubly sacred portal.
